About Scott
Storyteller

Early in my career, I realized that story can do so many things. It can inform. Persuade. Entertain. Inspire. And sometimes, it can change the way we see the world around us.
I've always thought editing has a lot in common with music.
Visual storytelling works much the same way. Replace the notes with images, words and sound. Knowing how those pieces work together is what makes a story connect.
“In music the notes matter, but so do timing, rhythm, and the spaces in between.”
“What if we…”
For me, the best work is collaborative.
I listen. I try to understand where a creative team wants to go and stay one step ahead. And I love offering the idea they may not have considered yet—the “What if we…” moment that opens another possibility.
One of my favorite moments in any project is when someone says:
“I love where this is going.”
That's when you know something good is happening.
The Bigger Picture.
I've worked on both the creative and management sides of the business. That perspective matters.
I understand the desire to make something exceptional. I also understand that every project has an objective, an audience, a schedule and a budget. And there are people who are accountable for the result.
My work has ranged from national television commercials to documentaries on streaming platforms to nonprofit and pro-bono projects.

The scale may change.
The commitment doesn't.
Experience + Curiosity.
Technology has changed enormously during my career. That's exciting.
I don't define myself by an editing system, a camera, an AI model or any other tool. I'm a storyteller.
I want to understand what we're trying to accomplish and then find the best way to tell that story—with whatever combination of ideas, people and technology the project calls for.
Experience helps me know what matters.
Curiosity keeps me asking what else might be possible.
Teaching + Learning.
For more than 17 years, I taught Visual Storytelling at the VCU Brandcenter, working with young creatives as they learned how to turn ideas into stories that connect with people.
Teaching has always kept me curious. The questions students ask, the ideas they come up with and the new ways they see the world have influenced the way I think about my own work.
And as the tools of storytelling continue to change, I'm still teaching and still learning.
Part of the team.
Ultimately, I want to feel like I'm part of my client's team, bringing something to the project that makes the work stronger, makes the process better and helps them succeed with their client or audience.
At the end of the day
Your success is my success.
